Ummagumma se compone de un LP en vivo y otro de estudio; el primero captura la intensidad experimental y ambiente psicodélico del grupo en conciertos de 1969, reinterpretando clásicos como “Astronomy Domine”, “Careful with that Axe, Eugene”, “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun” y “A Saucerful of Secrets”.
El segundo LP está formado por piezas solistas de cada miembro: desde la psicodélica “Sysyphus” de Richard Wright, hasta la exploración vocal-ambiental de Roger Waters (“Grantchester Meadows”, “Several Species…”), el tripartito “The Narrow Way” de David Gilmour y la percusiva “The Grand Vizier’s Garden Party” de Nick Mason.
Ummagumma es célebre por su carácter arriesgado, experimental y a veces divisivo, considerado una carta de libertad artística absoluta antes de la era conceptual de los 70.
